How to prevent sadness
For the past decade, Gran Turismo has helped me miss deadlines, ignore nice girls and taunt carpal tunnel syndrome. With the franchise finally reaching Playstation 3, its’ gee-whiz graphics and outstanding car physics, I have no plans to go on a vacation to Cancun this summer.
The realism in the videogame has helped Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, BMW (and others) promote new cars and develop entirely new strategies based on the game’s virtual promotion of autos. Nissan’s brand new GT-R exists in the US today due to the immense popularity generated from a decade of Gran Turismo.
While Gran Turismo has failed to teach me how to avoid parking tickets or pick up friendly girls in a hot sports car, I am confident that Gran Turismo 5 will be well worth the money. When Dongdaemun Gate (Korea’s #1 National Treasure) burnt in February, I recollected at the numerous hours I had spent around the gate in Gran Turismo 4 at 280km/h with a BMW M3 CSL.
So with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue now rendering a pixel perfect London, I feel pretty good knowing I don’t need to visit London anymore. Thanks Sony, Polyphony Digital and Gran Turismo 5 for making this happen.
