Naomi Cahn and June Carbone — family law professors at George Washington University and the University of Missouri (Kansas City), respectively — suggest that the apparent paradox is no paradox at all. Rather, it is the natural consequence of a cultural divide that has opened wide over the past few decades and shows no sign of closing. To define the divide in a sentence: In red America, families form adults; in blue America, adults form families.

National Journal Magazine - Do ‘Family Values’ Weaken Families?

An incredible essay about the cultural divide in America and the intricate ties between sexual activity, marriage and politics.

My parents were immigrants. I could have been a convenience store manager, I feel very fortunate to have a job like this one.

Administration Targets Jobs Puzzle - WSJ.com
Trying to fix unemployment with little room to move interest rates, an enormous deficit and a hyper-partisan Washington sounds harder than anything I will ever do in my life.

Harold Koh, former dean of Yale Law School and now legal adviser at the State Department, and Howard Koh, assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services, both were confirmed by the Senate late last month. The rise of the two brothers, though, is only the latest success story in a Korean-American family of super-achievers. The Kohs’ four siblings include a retired college dean, a university professor, a doctor and an artist.

Damn impressive

While each member of the Senate caucuses with his Party, what each of us hopes to accomplish is distinct from his party affiliation. The American people do not care which Party solves the problems confronting our nation. And no Senator, no matter how loyal he is to his Party, should or would put party loyalty above his duty to the state and nation. My change in party affiliation does not mean that I will be a party-line voter any more for the Democrats that I have been for the Republicans. Unlike Senator Jeffords’ switch which changed party control, I will not be an automatic 60th vote for cloture. For example, my position on Employees Free Choice (Card Check) will not change.

Senator Tells AIG Executives to “Kill Themselves”

Sen Grassley is PIMP. And so multicultural!

soupsoup:

Sen. Charles Grassley is so angry over AIG bonuses that he says the executives should resign or kill themselves.

In a comment aired this afternoon on WMT, an Iowa radio station, Grassley (R-Iowa) said: “The first thing that would make me feel a little bit better towards them if they’d follow the Japanese model and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things — resign, or go commit suicide.”
